About VMgenie

What is VMgenie?

VMgenie is an intuitive control panel for creating and managing virtual servers. A single panel manages every physical server you own, every VM on each server, the IPv4 and IPv6 networking between them, and (optionally) the end-user accounts that rent VMs on top. The same panel runs whether you self-host on your own hardware or use a hosted panel at your-company.vmgen.ie.

Do I need my own hardware to run VMgenie?

No. You can launch a hosted control panel on your own subdomain in a few clicks from the Get Started page and let Netquirk run the hardware. If you prefer to keep the hardware on-premises, VMgenie is self-hosted: you bring your own physical servers, install the VMgenie agent on each, and the same panel you would have used in the cloud talks to them over an outbound API call.

Platform and networking

Which operating systems can I use?

Any OS that VMgenie ships a template for. Templates are pulled automatically from the VMgenie repository to every server you define, and each server can keep its own template pool so you can pin specific operating systems where they are needed. The Downloads page lists the supported clients, and the panel API (GET /api/v1/templates) returns the up-to-date template names you can pass to POST /api/v1/vms.

How are IPv4 and IPv6 handled?

Both are first-class. IPv4 works with every server provider using the universal gateway 169.254.1.1 as a static route, so a VM can be migrated to a different server without updating the gateway or netmask inside the guest. IPv6 is native, not NAT'd: you split your IPv6 pool into smaller blocks (a /64, /56 or /48 depending on plan) and assign those blocks to VMs. Every plan on the Pricing page includes both IPv4 and IPv6.

Plans, servers and resellers

How much do plans cost, and can I change plan later?

Every plan is the same panel and the same API. Start with a 14-day free trial, then choose Standard at $12/month for small teams, Pro at $49/month for resellers, or Business at $199/month for data centres — see Pricing for the full comparison. You can move up or down at any time from the panel settings; resource caps take effect on the next VM creation, so existing VMs are not interrupted when you change plan.

What is a "physical server"?

A physical server is a piece of hardware running the VMgenie agent that hosts your VMs. It can be a dedicated server you colocate, a machine in your office, or a VM in another provider's cloud — VMgenie only requires the agent to be installed and reachable. Physical server limits depend on your plan: the 14-day trial includes one, Standard up to 5, Pro up to 25, and Business is unlimited. Each server you add can live in a different data centre.

Do you offer reseller accounts?

Yes. From the Pro plan upward, VMgenie supports unlimited reseller accounts: users that can log into the same panel, see only the resources assigned to them, and (optionally) create their own VMs and dedicated servers inside quotas you set. The home page has a Reseller Accounts section that shows the per-user limits and ownership controls in the UI.

Getting started

How do I get started?

Pick the path that fits. For a hosted panel, go to Get Started, choose your subdomain, and click Launch. For self-hosting on your own hardware, follow the same page to download the agent and paste the install command into the SSH terminal of each server you want to add. Once the panel is up, the Quickstart walks you through creating your first VM through the panel API in six short steps.
