System requirements

Before installing the VMgenie panel, check that the host you intend to run it on meets the minimums listed below. These are the figures we test against; anything weaker than the minimums is unsupported.

Minimum host specifications

The figures below are minimums for running the VMgenie control panel itself; they do not include the disk, CPU or RAM that the virtual servers you create will consume.

Supported host OS 64-bit Linux — Debian 12 (bookworm) or Debian 13, or Ubuntu 22.04 LTS / 24.04 LTS, on x86_64 (amd64) or arm64 hardware. A fresh, minimal install is sufficient.
Minimum CPU 2 physical cores with hardware virtualization extensions enabled in the host firmware (Intel VT-x or AMD-V on x86_64). The virtualization extensions must not be locked by the host provider.
Minimum RAM 4 GB. More is recommended; each VM you create will draw from this pool.
Minimum disk 40 GB free on the partition that will hold the VMgenie install and the VM storage volumes. SSDs (or faster) are strongly recommended for production use.

Network and access

  • The host must have a routable IPv4 address (and ideally an IPv6 prefix) for VM traffic.
  • Outbound HTTPS to the VMgenie template repository must be allowed so VM templates can be downloaded.
  • Inbound TCP 22 (SSH) and TCP 80/443 (or whatever the panel web ports are configured to) must be reachable from the network you plan to manage the host from.

Recommended for production

The minimums above let you run the panel. For production use — several VMs, IPv6 pools, templates and reseller accounts — we suggest 4 or more CPU cores, 16 GB of RAM and 100 GB or more of SSD-backed storage so headroom remains after the panel and templates are on disk.
