Roadmap

What VMgenie plans to add in the next release, kept clearly separate from what has already shipped. Each item is labelled with its current status — Planned, In progress, or Shipped — so a reader can tell at a glance what is queued, being built, and already live. For the dated list of shipped work, see the changelog.

What the labels mean

Each roadmap item carries one of these three status labels.

Planned
Agreed and queued, but work has not started. Expect the item to move to In progress when a release branch is cut.
In progress
Being built now; targeted for the upcoming release. Scope may still shift before the tag ships.
Shipped
Released in a tagged VMgenie version. The dated list of releases is in the changelog.

Planned for the next release

Items the team is actively working on for the upcoming VMgenie 2.7.0. Dates and final scope are not committed — this list reflects current intent.

  • In progress Automated VM snapshots. Schedule snapshots per VM, retain a configurable number of recovery points, and restore a snapshot back to the same VM or to a new one from the VM detail page.
  • Planned Audit log. Every panel action (VM lifecycle, network change, user invite, plan change) recorded with actor, timestamp and target so operators and resellers can answer "who did what, when".
  • Planned Per-VM and per-server backup window. Choose the time-of-day when snapshots and template sync are allowed, so a heavy sync never lands in the middle of a tenant's peak traffic.
  • Planned Storage pool management. Add, remove and resize storage pools on a registered physical server from the panel; the agent picks up the change without needing an SSH session on the host.
  • In progress Two-factor authentication. TOTP-based 2FA for panel logins, scoped per user (operator and reseller) and enforceable as a panel-wide policy.
  • Planned Resource forecasting on the dashboard. Trend lines for CPU, RAM and disk across the last 7 / 30 days, with a projected exhaustion date per physical server.
  • In progress REST API: v1.1. Pagination, filtering and bulk endpoints across the existing /api/v1 resources, kept backwards compatible with the v1.0 clients shipped in 2.0.

Already shipped

A representative sample of items released in earlier VMgenie versions. The dated list of every shipped change is in the changelog.

  • Shipped Reseller self-service improvements (2.6.0) — resellers can now create and assign dedicated physical servers to their own customers without operator intervention; per-user resource quotas return a clear 422 instead of failing later.
  • Shipped Faster template sync (2.5.0) — template sync now runs in parallel across every server in a pool, and incremental template updates only re-download changed layers.
  • Shipped Multitasking UI (2.4.0) — the VM detail page now opens the serial console, VNC viewer and live usage graphs side-by-side in resizable panes; quick actions and drag-and-drop ordering of the VM list.
